Literature Text

If we're only ever
looking back, we
will drive
ourselves insane.
As the friendship
goes, resentment
grows, we will
walk our
different ways.
But those are
the days that
bind us
together, forever.
And those little
things define us
forever, forever.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sound of pages turning is the only noise that resonates throughout the house of a blond boy, his blue eyes focusing into an intense gaze as he concentrates on the photos in front of him. So far, he hasn't spotted a single one that included the strange girl he tried to help at school. It only confuses him, filling him with the burning curiosity and strange guilt to find out who she is and learn her name. If she spoke the truth before she had stormed off, then he should have seen at least one picture of her with him by now. Then again, these photos only show Link's family when he was only three years old. Surely they can't have met each other when he was that young.

Sighing, he closes the book, setting it in the pile next to him as a dejected feeling settles in. That's the fourth one he's looked through. Where can it possibly be? Ears twitching at the sound of the front door opening, Link looks up to see his mother finally walk through the living room, a tired expression engraved in her features as she collapses onto the couch. Flashing her a sheepish smile, he asks, "Rough day?"

"You know how my clients can be," she sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose. Finally noticing the scattered albums across the floor, she gives her son a questioning look. "Sweetheart, I didn't think you were this sentimental about your childhood." Link quickly shook his head.

"Nah, I was just trying to find something..." Getting an idea, he asks, "Hey mom, did I have a really good friend when I was young? Back in elementary school?" Thinking for a moment, the woman smiles, pulling an album out of the stack closest to her and moving towards her son, opening it.

"Do you mean (Y/n)? Oh, you two were so close! I think I even remember a certain someone having a crush on her~." Link's eyes widen, and a faint blush creeps up on his face.

"Mom!"

"What? It's true. You used to go on and on about her, but once you got into middle school, I never heard a word about her again. I sort of miss having her around." Handing him the album, his mother rolls her shoulders back. "I don't know why you're suddenly bringing (Y/n) up after years of not speaking about her, but for Nayru's sake, Link, you could at least remember the poor girl's name." With that, she retreats into the hall, changing into her pajamas, no doubt.

The boy quickly scans the book's contents, and is shocked to find tons of photos of him and a (h/c)-haired, (e/c)-eyed girl. But that can't be! He barely remembers anything that happened in elementary school, much less the people he spent those years with, so how can (Y/n) remember all of this? Flipping through the book, he discovers moments of his childhood that he can't recall, and most of them were spent with the girl who was always flashing glares at him and acts like she wants him dead. He closes it, still stunned by the fact he had forgotten someone who had apparently been so important to him. He'll try to figure it out later. Right now, the strange incidents that have occurred today have given him a massive headache.

Link bounced excitedly in the back of the car, his parents flashing each other knowing smiles that went unnoticed by the anxious boy. "I hope I have the same classes as (Y/n), it'd be so cool if we could still spend most of the day together! Do you think I'll get lost? The place is so big, and the classrooms are scattered everywhere! Well, I can't be the only one who will get lost. No one else could memorize where to go on the first day. It's impossible."

The young blond talked and jabbered the whole car ride to the new school, but his parents didn't mind. After all, they were his age once, and knew all too well the anticipation they got when they finally went to middle school. However, they were a bit grateful when they finally pulled up to the huge building. They bid their son a good day as he exited the car, and drove off as he faced the school. He began to walk towards it as his eyes darted around, in search of his best friend. What caught his gaze instead was a couple of people in front of the entrance doors, chatting and clueless to the people around. Curious, the young boy approached him.

"Hi, I'm Link." A blond girl faced him first, giving him a bright smile.

"My name's Zelda, nice to meet you~." A green-haired girl with matching eyes shyly waved at him.

"Saria."

"I'm Malon!" A fiery red-headed girl exclaimed, resting her elbow on Zelda's shoulder. A girl with blue hair grinned.

"Hey! I'm Navi!"

A couple more people introduced themselves, including a stubborn boy named Elzo, a monotonous girl who was called Fi, and a short boy named Collin. They shared a bit of information about themselves, and soon Link also lost his sense of time and place in the midst of the conversation. At one point, he couldn't help but ask, "How long have you guys known each other?"

"Oh, we just met each other today." Link tilted his head.

"But you guys seem like you've known each other forever. Didn't you guys have any classes together in elementary school?" Zelda giggled.

"You don't stick with friends you made in elementary school! Middle school is a chance to make new, better friends. Everyone knows that rule." Letting a smile grace her lips, she continued. "Hey, you should be friends with us. I doubt your old friends would hang out with you anyway, and you're pretty cool. We'd love it if you did!" Link hesitated, but nodded with a smile.

"Alright."

"Link, over here!" The boy turned his head to see (Y/n) waving at him, a grin on her face. It confused him. Didn't she know the rule? He nervously smiled at her, reluctantly waving back. She was supposed to make new friends, too. It couldn't be that hard. After all, he made friends without doing anything. Speaking of them, they began to drag him inside the school building, still going on about how they needed to pick up their schedule and compare classes. His former friend's steps faltered, and she gave him a puzzled look. Shrugging, his smile turned sheepish as he waved good-bye to her.

That was the last time he ever spoke of and saw her.

The blond boy shoots into a sitting position, gasping as the cold sweat freezes him. Running a hand through his hair, he lets out a sigh. Unfortunately, he knows what his dream is. A long-forgotten memory, one that was tucked away in the back of his mind until tonight, along with the years of his elementary school...and (Y/n). Sweet Din, (Y/n). How could he believe a stupid rule like that? It was ridiculous! ...And he had fell for it, leaving his best friend in the entire world alone. No wonder she hates him, Link would be surprised if she didn't. He has to make it up to her, and fix the heart he knows he broke.

Your P.o.V

(Y/n) watched as Link was dragged into their new school by people she had never seen before. Feeling a heavy weight settle on her heart, she nervously fiddled with her necklace as her features settled into a sad gaze. He didn't seem too eager to see her, or hang around her for that matter. Did he not like her anymore? What had she done? Feeling a hand on her shoulder, she turned to see a boy a little taller than her, with platinum white hair and eyes nearly black as coal. His expression was curious, and he asked, "Hey, why are you upset?"

"I think I've been ditched..." The newcomer frowned.

"What kind of loser would do that?" Snapping his fingers, he smirked. "Well, you don't need them. Come on, you can hang out with me and my friends." He then began to lead (Y/n) into the building, introducing himself as Ghirahim and rambling about how he was better than most of the peasants that went to this school. However, she tuned him out a little since her mind was still stuck on Link. The boy who promised her he'd be there, but when she needed him, he didn't give her a second glance.

She couldn't help but feel she had done something wrong.

(E/c) eyes flash open as (Y/n)'s heartbeat rose to her throat, making it difficult to breath. Groaning softly, she slowly sat up as she starts to calm the erratic pounding in her chest. This was the third time this week she's had that dream, not that it's any surprise. She usually has that dream three to four times a week, sometimes twice if she's lucky. Of course, those occasions are rare. Besides, it isn't like (Y/n) can change the past, no matter how much she wants to.

Not like she does, anyways.

The experience taught her that Link isn't someone to be trusted, or hang around or that matter. He's someone that will abandon you as soon as he gets the chance. The sooner, the better. She has better friends now, she doesn't need him. So why does she keep dreaming about that moment? It's something she knows won't change, so why does her subconscious keep reminding her of it? Deciding not to think about it, she lays back down, closing her eyes as she moves her (h/c) hair away from her face. It's nothing to mourn about now. After all, they went their separate ways. That's life. You can't change it, and you can't predict it.

So why does it still hurt?
Oh my goodness, this took too long to update xD I'm terribly sorry for the long wait!! ^^; Anyways, I hope this lived up to your expectations! Everyone loved this so much, and was practically begging for this to come out. Needless to say, it really surprised me. It made happy, yet very flustered :iconblushuplz:

This idea came to me a long~ time ago, when I read Rosada's fanfic, FrUK .: Bad Blood :. and I cried while I was reading it ;A; Seriously, go read it, you won't be sorry. Anyways, in the midst of my tears while listening to Bad Blood , I got this idea. I was discussing Modern!Zelda with saxophone5673 and I told her that she would be a part of it for helping me :D
